April 2025 – Interested in understanding cellular mechanisms of cognitive decline after stroke? Then check out our latest work in Nature communications >> – We track the fate of individual neurons involved in spatial memory before and after multiple, distributed microstrokes using chronic 2photon imaging in-vivo. Many thanks to an amazing PhD student Hendrik Heiser, great collaborators (Fritjof Helmchen, Julijana Gjorgjieva, Filippo Kiessler , Adrian Roggenbach, Victor Ibanez, Martin Wieckhorst).

September 2024 – We are super happy to announce that we received one of the ERC Starting Grants 2024 to study fundamental principles of neuronal repair after stroke. We will examine how individual neurons in the active brain react to microstrokes and how the survival and rewiring of neurons can be enhanced to prevent cognitive decline after brain injury.

January 2024 – We recently joined the TRR274 – Checkpoints of Central Nervous System Recovery
